Poverty pathologizes people who are losing in capitalism rather than
concrete economic sources: “There are victims, but no victimizers.” The
language of “poverty” keeps us from questioning and critiquing our
economic system in a way that “wealth inequality” and “class disparity” —
or class war — does not.
