Are rivers that run red progress? Is turning healthy soil into pale, lifeless dirt (as Shepard keeps calling it) progress? Is changing our climate through the way we grow food progress? Shepard doesn’t think so. And this farm grew out of his search for a place to bring to life a different vision of progress: a farm that was restorative, regenerative, and resilient, that approached farming as a knowledge-intensive practice, not a chemical-intensive one. New Forest is a farm that’s connected to its community (including its customers) through a chain of values, not a chain of money-siphoning, globe-spanning, disconnected corporate middlemen.
