Breaking out of the individual mind-set, we see ourselves (and food) differently; food can be that integrating lens that helps us absorb the otherwise abstract ideas of ecology and interconnectedness.

And food can help us see possibility where we might not have seen it before. Awakening to food and farming as part of the climate crisis, we see food choices and food activism as part of the climate solution. Awakening to food, we see the billions on the planet who are food producers as climate heroes, and we see ourselves, whether we have our hands in the dirt or just eat what comes out of it, as cocreators of the food system, too. Perhaps, best of all, throwing your weight behind this climate-friendly food system will also deliver you hope. For, I’ve become convinced, hope isn’t something we have to passively wait for until the news gets better; hope is something we can choose, right here, right now; it’s what we become when we take action.
